Quincy Egginton

Quincy Egginton is an artist, art educator and community member. She is passionate about teaching art to students of all ages and has enjoyed teaching at all levels. As a full-time professor at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry NY, she developed a BFA program in graphic design. Later she was a visiting artist for the
Katonah Museum, taught at the Chappaqua Library and Westchester Art Workshop. Quincy was also an art teacher in the Bedford Schools and Katonah
Lewisboro School District.

Quincy Egginton earned her BFA at the Syracuse University School of Visual and Performing Arts with a major in Illustration. Quincy attended the Columbia
University School of Art before enrolling at Teachers College, Columbia University where she earned a Masters in Education and then a Doctorate in Art
Education, specializing in Drawing, Painting and Printmaking. As a teaching assistant in the Printmaking studio she earned recognition as a Master Printer.

Quincy has taught art through continuing education for adults in Chappaqua, Larchmont, Scarsdale; at the Putnam Arts Council, Westchester Community
College, and Bridgehampton Museum. She also taught children art through numerous libraries, The Katonah Art Center, the Chinese School HXNYC, South
Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton, the Wainscott School, and Project Most, East Hampton.

Life at the beach has always been the inspiration for her art. Growing up in Lexington, MA, she was able to visit beaches north and south of Boston. She and her husband, Hersey, purchased a home in Wainscott 48 years ago and finally moved here full time in May 2021.

Inspired By Nature

Natural landscapes have always inspired my art. I have explored the varied scenery of the Hudson Valley as well as the beachscapes on Long Island,
Massachusetts and Maine.

When I sit down surrounded by a beautiful panorama, I am mesmerized by the magic of the scenery and excited by the opportunity to capture my
impression on paper. Drawings are responds to my interpretation of what you see. With watercolor there is always an element of not knowing how the
finished piece will develop; I love the spontaneity of this fluid media. As I paint, the light changes and the clouds shift, the wind blows, all this becomes
part of the experience of capturing and creating.

Printmaking also involves this element of magical discovery in seeing how the print develops. And this continues to be true as the printing possibilities
are explored.

I have taught students throughout Westchester and now in the Hamptons, and I have been privileged to witness their joy in this process of creating and
discovery. Though we may all view the same landscape, the creative expressions are as varied as the people themselves, and this inspires my
teaching and my creative process as well.

Some of my pieces are realistic interpretations of subjects and others explore concepts through abstraction. To appreciate any process of art is to
appreciate its endless opportunities. The observation of nature and the modes of expression are an enduring inspiration and a continual pursuit.
