Paula Raflo
Paula Raflo is a multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges expressive pastel abstraction, symbolic storytelling, and performative sensibilities of her background in theatre. Her paintings, often rendered in pastels, charcoal, and acrylic, are known for their vibrant color fields, emotional immediacy, and dreamlike figurative elements, creating visual narratives that explore memory, intuition, and the inner life.
Raflo’s work has been featured in multiple exhibitions at the Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor, The Depot in Montauk, Lucore Gallery and Ashawagh Hall, New York Fine Art Society, as well as the Watermill Museum, and currently at the Expo in Hong Kong. These shows reflect her growing presence in the East End art community and the distinctive voice she brings to contemporary pastel and mixed media work.
Her visual practice is informed by decades of experience in the performing arts. Raflo has appeared in films such as After Hours, Keeping the Faith, and True Story, to name a few—a background that deepens her sensitivity to gesture, character, and emotional nuance.
This theatrical lineage carries into her painting, where figures—human, animal, or symbolic—often emerge as archetypes within layered, atmospheric spaces. Her recent bodies of work explore themes of transformation, vulnerability, and the porous boundary between the seen and the felt. Her art invites viewers into a world where emotion becomes landscape and memory becomes myth.
