We are all kings and queens and royals, connected to a higher power and the collective unconscious. The series Kings is a celebration of all the faces of humanity. The crowns in this collection are a symbol. They can be seen as a halo — a light emanating from inside that rises above. None of us are alone. We are a collection of those who have gone before us. The crown is passed from one generation to the next. And everyone can find a crown that exists within themselves.

Carl G. Jung described the animus as the inner masculine aspect of a woman and the anima as the inner feminine aspect of a man, each transcending the personal psyche. When we acknowledge we are all a part of something greater than us, we are stronger together for that knowledge.

The spirit that travels within us is stronger than anything the outside world can put us through. Since the beginning of time, humanity has encountered hardships and our strengths and perseverance has pushed us forward. The fact that we are here is a testament to the trials and tribulations of our ancestors.

These faces of the ones who have gone before and who will come after us, imbued with the power of survival and hope, always rising and moving forward, open us to the layers of meaning that can be found all around us.

In this time when so many of our faces are covered, let us rejoice in the simple beauty of an open face.
