Born in Sag Harbor, Studied as a teenager with French Painter Madame Marec, Received a BS in Music Education from Ithaca College, and a Masters in Special Education from C.W. Post. Took graduate art courses in painting at Hofstra University. Studied oil painting with Michael Viera and Howard Rose. As a teenager greatly influenced by Salvidor Dali’s sense of space, by Georgia Okeefe’s use of color, the impressionist’s paint textures and Edward Hopper’s sense of loneliness in his subjects.
It is a love of the paint itself which most involves Joan Tripp, the creation of color fused with color that creates varied forms, real or abstract. A fascination with space, planets, galaxies, and stardust provide the impetus to experiment with pure color to reproduce in paint some of the most magnificent forms in the universe. It is her hope that rather than curtail space exploration, the journey will be expanded for in space lies the hope of the future.
